Ortiz might need an Angel

Boston writer Steve Buckley writes “Manny Ramirez  is long, long gone and the Sox were unable to provide the proper amount of dollar signs this off-season to bring Mark Teixeira to Boston”. So  Mr. Buckley follows John Henry’s lead here and throws money into the equation as to why the Redsox didn’t acquire Mark Teixeira. Teixeira did end up signing with the Yankees but not for the most money that was offered, the Nats own that distinction, No  Steve he didn’t go to Boston because he didn’t want to. I know that’s a bitter pill for his Lordship Buckley to swallow, but it’s true. I know the mantra RE: Manny for the Boston front office and the Nation, thanks to the biased character assassination skills by management and the Boston media shills they  carry  around in their back pocket is:

“Let it go. He’s gone. He didn’t want to be here. We don’t WANT him here. He’s a good player with a crappy attitude. The team doesn’t need that. Manny can fade away into obscurity as far as I’m concerned.”

“Other teams aren’t falling all over themselves to sign him, why should Boston? Maybe if he took a pay cut, had a character clause in his contract and performed some public service”

“You want Manny back and think it would be a good idea that’s why you should leave the sportswriting to those who cover it daily and for the most part have a clue.

Manny, immature, injury faking, lowlife that he is QUIT on his teammates.’

OK enough of that nonsense. You traded the guy. You leaked the stories, turned him into the Boston Strangler, You got your infomercial on the television, your misleading headlines in the news publications to make it look like it was all Manny’s fault.  But lets not forget you got the most productive seven years that your team ever has gotten out of any player, not to mention the only two world championships the team has won since Uncle Sal’s grandfather dropped the family business and put on the US Army 315 Engineers uniform.

Oh woe is me what’s a $820 million dollar and rising team to do? How about ripping up his contract and paying him to start with. It’s been done before, as it is, Boston came one game from another World Series appearance, and with all due respect to the $48 million dollar Rays and the Phillies, the Redsox probably would have won their 3rd Title in 5 years with Manny in the line-up.

Yes based on moral grounds a player should honor his contract, and Manny was approaching two option years at $20 million per year, but Manny being Manny looks around and sees what is now 5 players with more lucrative contracts, and only Derek Jeter in that group has any rings (4 by the way) and thinks to himself or should I say his uber agent Scott Boras points out to him, hey why not you, your better than all these guys, your the best slugger in the game, your half of the most notoriously lethal twosome maybe ever, it’s fair market value, and for Boston it would have been a smart business move.

Or maybe not, after all the Redsox still have the highest averaged priced ticket in all of baseball, they sell out every game, their shelves can’t keep enough kool Aid stocked on them., and they’re the top drawing road team in baseball, so who needs Manny. Well the only player on the Redsox who voted to keep him in Yawkey Town David Ortiz needs him that’s who.

Yes already the headlines read  Big Papi, Big Worry. Flip the screen and you have, David Ortiz out for 2nd day with sore shoulder.

Wait a minute are we 80 games into the season already? Coming down the stretch in a wild pennant race? No we’re two day’s into Spring training camp, and the new spokesman for anti steroid use in baseball David Ortiz is on the trainers table already. Move over Mike and JD make room for Big Papi, oh you think three’s a crowd, wait until Smoltzie, Penny, Rocco, and Saito fill the infirmary. Well maybe I’m jumping the gun, after all I only have recent track records to back up my claim, and I never wish ill health on any player, so strike that sentence from the record.

According to the club, he missed Thursday’s workout because he slept on his shoulder wrong. He missed yesterday’s workout too, another tough night counting sheep for Pops. I’d like to use the phrase he used to hit in his sleep, now he gets hurt in his sleep, but somebody beat me to it.

“He feels a lot better,” said Tito Francona the Sox manager, “He’s not a guy who’s probably done a ton of throwing coming into camp” That’s understandable, why would Pops want to come to camp in shape? After all he doesn’t get paid $12.5 million a year to do anything but hit.

Well for one he’s not just the straw that stirs the Boston drink in 09, but thanks to managements decision to ship Manny out of town Ortiz is the whole drink.

Big Papi played in only 109 games last year, this because of an injury to his left wrist. And when he did play, his numbers went down: His on-base percentage, a career high .445 in 2007, dropped to .369 last year. His batting average, .332 in 2007, fell to .264 last season. No wonder he voted for Manny to stay.

Popsie used to be able to play through injuries. I remember in 06 when Manny went down, Ortiz  who had an irregular heartbeat, got back into the lineup and shattered the team’s single-season home run record that had been held by Jimmie Foxx since 1938. I don’t know maybe his former trainer for the stars Angel Presinal helped get him through the night back then, possibly a GNC shake to rattle the roll he went on, again I’m jumping the gun maybe, it has been  a while Papi claims since he drank the players beverage of choice in the DR.

When Papi arrived in camp earlier this week, he immediately spoke words suggesting he is sensitive to comments about his age and his health.

“Sometimes, I listen to comments and it just does nothing but make me stronger,” he said. “I heard people saying, ‘He’s getting old or whatever.’ Dude, I just turned 33. I’ve never seen a player be called old at 33.”

Well Dave you can add me to that list of viewers who think your getting old before our eyes. I’ll be watching very closely this year, I’ll be checking out the rust on the frame, the dent in rear, the sputtering of that once finely tuned machine that used to sit in the middle of that awesome line up with Manny as your bumper guard.

“Yeah, it’s sore,” referring to his shoulder. “I think I’ll be out there (today). Things happen, and you do what you gotta do, you know?”

To bad it’s not a few years ago Dave, you could have called an Angel to help you big guy, like I’m sure you did many times before. Be very careful,  Selena Roberts could be lurking, and for God sake  you better hope she doesn’t want to write a book about you. There could be a lot of bean spilling in that memoir.

  • From the looks of this video Papi better contact his angel soon. I know some of the comments are “this isn’t the right video” but maybe that foul ball is all he got today. Also in the shot watching is the  much maligned Mike Lowell, the next great Redsox player to be taken to task by the Nation’s front running fans.

  2. thanks J. I have one that I tweaked it’s a touch better, but I’m caught in digital hell as you’ve experienced first hand, for some reason the wordpress image window won’t acknowledge the file. I did a check on both files and the info on them is identical, go figure. I could use a good 10 year old computer kid to straighten me out hahahaha

  6. Morning gents. Excellent excellent words Sal. Just awesome writing. Put you on the DN. Get the resume together. You can’t sum up the situation any more than that. You dashing and good-looking Dandy.

Love the BoSox media turning on Papi now. These hacks know no boundaries.

That picture looks downright real. I had to triple take and put my nose to the screen. If you didn’t say it was photoshopped, I wouldn’t have guessed it. All kinds of mischief can be manufactured…it’s all coming together…I LIKE IT!!!!

Missed you last night on BBT, Sal. But after an absence you normally deliver the goods, you handsome devil you.

  8. I had a long donut fest yesterday/ last night fellas, got in early this morning, still wired out, from to much coffee that is. but thank you. I have to get my save chops together on this PS Elements, It would help if I read the help tutorial, but as soon as I got my hands on this puppy I wanted to go to work, but I put the horse in front of the wagon. that’s what i did with the Jobano’s I’ll go back and re do that one, I tried to fix the bad edit job in the mix by dropping the size on it. I should know better from cutting bad tracks in the studio you can’t remove the stink from shit.

I tried to catch up at the BBT, but you got so many hits I couldn’t go back into all the comments.

The last I read was the paste on Cha’s take. hahaha. he’s a pisser. He should be’s BBT’s press agent. wait he already is. Cha if your reading this you got the gig, checks in the mail

El B no need to send me GDY’s PS, this Elements is really good, probably the same work page as the one M4 has, so for composites it’s good, it’s more me learning the in’s and outs like any other digital software ( pro tools comes to mind) So I’m hooked up, but thanks for the offer

So I’ll try to catch the shows now, i don’t have that accessibility in my studio, only the house, and I have to share and share alike with Aunt Marie, who I already have driven nuts with my baseball obsession she calls it. that’s when I pull out the 1963 little league Batting title trophy and tell her, do you realize who your talking to here.

  16. At 12 years old, I was “Comeback Player of the Year”. I credited it all to the milkshakes. DQ milkshakes that is, vanilla, but I think they checked out OK with the union. Back in ‘87 if you had heft it was because you preferred chocodiles over regular twinkies. These kids today have god knows what in their soda pops. The average 12 year old can hop himself up on caffeine and taurine and B12 and pitch 6 innings on back-to-back games then hop on the pogo stick and crater his way home, where he feasts on fish oil vitamins and gogurt.

Hey j I remember the largest physical thing in the 80’s was Garvey’s forearms. Remember Ron Cey running around the bases? You think the scouts today would have picked him out and promoted him?

Besides that I think those guys mainlined Dexatrim. Definitely amphetamines. But compared to the 90s when it was rip rip rip, jeez the sky’s the limit as far as %.
